Chess in bars and cafés 3
About this list
Prague has no long row of chess cafés, but three places keep a board on the table in public. Brix Bar & Hostel on Roháčova street in Žižkov runs a seven-round rapid on Thursday evenings, and the winner's prize is a voucher for the bar; the evening is a regular fixture of the federation calendar. Players are expected to buy a drink.
The 2Baldies restaurant in Karlín hosts blitz tournaments of a local club on Saturdays, with a lower fee for those who register ahead. On Wenceslas Square, the Šachová kavárna of Hotel Juliš is a chess café in the hotel building; it is the venue of the Memoriál Břetislava Modra each September and the home room of Prague league teams. Check the date on each entry before you go.
